Company: Credit Suisse
Date: 2020
Role: Creative & UX Direction
Format: Web & Native Application
Background
Credit Suisse Group AG, a Swiss entity specializing in wealth management, investment banking, and financial services, prioritized the overhaul of its CS Digital platform. This platform serves as the principal interface for clients and wealth managers to oversee their financial assets. Originally developed as a straightforward tool with limited functionality, the addition of new features over time began to detract from the user experience due to the outdated interface's inability to accommodate these enhancements.
Recognizing the necessity for a comprehensive user experience (UX) redesign, the Wealth Management team embarked on a significant project to revamp the application in 2020. This involved transitioning the platform to a new infrastructure, incorporating a fresh user interface (UI), and substantially improving the overall user experience. I led the UX and design initiatives, setting up the design team, and defining UX strategy and building a design system from sretch.
The migration of the application to a new platform, utilizing Backbase, enabled us to deliver a seamless user experience across all points of interaction. The platform, accessible as a responsive web application and through native mobile apps on iOS and Android, also played a crucial role in enhancing security. A key principle guiding the redesign was the emphasis on user-centricity, ensuring ease of navigation and accessibility.
The project's success hinged on prioritizing research and usability testing before implementing design enhancements. This approach allowed us to amalgamate qualitative and quantitative data, offering a comprehensive understanding of the application's use. We conducted an exhaustive analysis of the existing platform, market trends, and target user demographics, including clients and Relationship Managers. By examining how users engaged with the application, we were able to identify which features needed greater prominence and optimal placement, ensuring a more intuitive and effective user interface.
Simple, fluid with a touch of magic
Our goal was to create a holistic experience across multiple channels. We worked with the belief that banking applications should be smart, simple to use and fluid… with a touch of magic. Our aim was to help to focus the user's attention on the content and the most important actions available with a compelling user experience by leveraging the unique capabilities of the platform.
The challenge was to provide a delightful user experience for any type of user, some with only one portfolio or with a handful of portfolios and multiple accounts so that the activity in all accounts would be easy to review, monitor and manage.
Combining existing & new features
The challenge was to keep the screens streamlined while still allowing the user about all the details and options and features. The following features have been integrated into the application:
• New security stack with one-touch log-in (mobile/iOS) Self-service flows for initial registration and lost password.
• Aggregated wealth and performance view on all portfolios.
• Portfolio and account breakdown.
• Overview page with key market data & research content
• Detailed market data views
• Publications
• Watchlist with alerts, and Single instrument View.
• Documents inbox with priority index, actions and preview.
• Manage documents
• Contact Relationship Manager.
• Payment Entry
• Client settings, Help section, glossary, FAQ and privacy policy (static)
Visual Details
We've developed a unique set of icons that are integral to the brand experience. These icons, characterized by their simplicity and functionality, leave a memorable impact through their aesthetic appeal. They are strategically utilized throughout the application, offering both guidance and a visually stimulating experience to users. Additionally, we've curated a comprehensive collection of images that introduce vibrant colors and elements of nature, adding a refreshing contrast to the application's predominantly numerical interfaces.
